Heliotype is a man on a mission to create a fresh new sound in dance music. Easily said, but this man is actually achieving his goal in a big way.
Taking elements of house, garage and jungle, then fusing them with beautiful vocals and pensive chord arrangements, the Belfast-based producer curates a sonic palette that has led to the coining of the term “Balearic Bass”. This is feel-good, melodic music for the club, the beach or the headphones with a distinctive Ibizan edge.
Bursting onto the scene with “Saying Nothing” on D:Vision, followed by releases on Anjunadeep, Nervous, Toolroom and Exploited, Heliotype garnered major support from across the worldwide DJing and dance radio community, including multiple spins on BBC Radio 1 with Cool Cuts and Buzz Chart entries.
Heliotype’s music is emotive and engaging, demonstrated in spades by his latest offering on Armada Deep. “Your Love” has all the hallmarks of the Balearic Bass sound, bringing together old school breaks, uplifting pianos, profound strings and tripped-out vocals.
The credentials of this fast-rising DJ are strengthened further by his skills as a radio presenter, as evidenced by the call coming from BBC Radio 1 to sit in for the legendary Pete Tong in December of 2019. This saw Stuart “Heliotype” Millar full one of his musical ambitions, with radio having been a passion of his for a long time. Having these talents recognized nationally by the BBC has been a huge boost to the Belfast boy.
There are new works in the pipeline for this multi-talented UK producer plus shows pending around the World, as once again Heliotype is set to engage the attention of the dance cognoscenti. With the more discerning tastemakers on board, and his previous jams being spun by everyone from Claptone and Monki to Tiesto and Steve Angello, listen out for fresh Heliotype cuts rocking all manner of radio, festivals and al fresco parties.
