Places EP is the debut release from San Francisco's Dan Sherman. All five tracks are oceanically deep, intricate, and full of sonic surprises. The sounds are original, and the tracks evolve and weave beautifully, with refreshing attention paid to contrasts in dynamic range, musical subplots, and recurring themes.

San Francisco's Dan Sherman began his journey as a DJ in the midwestern state of Iowa, leaning his craft though a steady stream of gigs via his residency at the weekly club night Vinyl and a weekly radio show on 88.5 KURE FM. His next move landed him in New Zealand where he held residency at an underground venue on Auckland's Queen Street. Fast forward to 2010 and his arrival in the Bay Area where he found a home as one of the resident DJs at Qool, San Francisco's longest running electronic music event, founded by the legendary Jondi and Spesh of Looq Records. He is also a co-founder of Concept, a "quarterly experiment in musical communication", and also of "Sui Generis" which focusses on booking electronic music acts who have never performed in San Francisco. His DJ style is deep, but beneath the mellow stylings is a tempest of layers and a constant push of combining, shuffling and re-combing bits of tracks to create a sustained and captivating intensity. In Spesh's words, "Watching Dan DJ is a lot like watching John Digweed. Tracks are constantly in the mix and fingers are constantly busy making detailed and well timed adjustments that make all the difference - all done with commanding competence." Dan Sherman's musical background is founded in youthful forays into piano, clarinet and guitar. Now, with years of DJ experience under his belt, he has added solo electronic music production to his repertoire.
