Following Fapples and Oliver Koletzki the third release on Light my
Fire comes courtesy of Dan Caster. With twelve years of production and
fifteen years of DJ experience, Dan is a fountain of musical
knowledge, confident enough to let his work speak for itself. Thus, he
has often remained in the metaphorical shadows of the studio,
co-producing for the likes of Niconé, Sascha Braemer or Rene
Bourgeois, while also releasing on numerous high-profile labels
himself. Full of character and skill, his ‘Let it Play’ EP will
inevitably push him further into the limelight – precisely where he
belongs.
While the title track hooks you from the get-go thanks to an
atmospheric synth motif and delayed claps that climax in a break of
irresistible vocal loops, the second track, ‘Freakin’, is a delicious
peak-time bomb, driven forward by a deep, chugging bass-line. Next,
‘Marlene’ takes the foot off the pedal for a bitter sweet good-bye of
gentle Spanish guitars, enchanting vocals and lively tambourines,
leaving you undeniably satisfied yet hungry for more.
