Straight out of the UK dance music melting pot comes the ineffable Brighton and Manchester based duo Cortese. A charming blend of garage, breaks and house make up their core musical DNA, often switching between pumping four-to-the-floor beats and steppier rhythms with a sharp ear for rave-ready yet soul-soothing melodies. It’s the sum of all their influences combined that make their music so special, and it’s quickly being noticed.
Early self-releases like the infectiously catchy Renault Sport paved a clear path, and with every subsequent release you can hear the influences spread wider and the grooves deeper. It’s no surprise that last year saw them supporting acts like Bicep and Mike Skinner, as well as gaining support from the likes of Jaguar on Radio 1’s dance show. 2021 also saw releases on Southpoint, Eton Messy, Time Is Now White, Sasha’s LUZoSCURA compilation, plus their own label Plaza.
2022 will be no different, with an EP on the main Time Is Now label, Just Her’s Constant Circles, and more.
