ANANÉ In the increasingly merciless music industry of the 21st century, Anané shines bright as an example of what a love for life, dedication to music and hard work can bring worldwide success. Chosen by Billboard Magazine as one of the “2008 Faces to Watch” columnists Kerri Mason raves, “Combining earthiness with glamour and roots-deep house music knowledge with pop wise diversity, Anané could be the first up-from-the-nightclub superstar since Madonna”. The multi-talented singer-songwriter is preparing to release her debut album – “ananésworld” - on the US's pioneering Tommy Boy and, in doing so, the world is set to discover the heartfelt, soulful and eclectic musical stylings of one of music's shining lights. Having co-produced several tracks on “ananésworld” alongside Grammy Award-winning DJ-Producer Louie Vega, Anané has also teamed up with some of today’s most innovative and exciting songwriters and artists in what has been her introduction to production. The album features dance, reggae, rock, r&b soul, world and Caribbean influences. Anané co-wrote nine of the songs with Grammy Award Winner Lisa Fischer, Duane Harden, Lem Springsteen, Kalu Montiero and Djim Djob, while other collaborators include Masters at Work, Mr. V, Louie “Lou” Gorbea, Bob Sinclar and Da Groove Doctors. Fellow Elements Of Life musicians Luisito Quintero (percussion), Mike Ciro (guitar) Jerard Snell (drums) and Gene Perez (bass) providing a fluid and powerful rhythm section, making “ananésworld” a labor of love that will further elevate Anané’s star, reinforcing her reputation as an artist of ability and promise and - perhaps most importantly – emphatically demonstrating her lifelong commitment to her native roots. Born off the Western coast of Africa in the Cape Verdean capital Santiago – an unspoiled and exotic chain of islands brimming with vibrancy - Anané's potential was evident from an early age as she fully embraced her own culture; it being an undeniable and inescapable part of her professional and personal development. Her island homeland has long prided itself on its African, Portuguese, Mediterranean, and Latin American customs and traditions. “My aunts and uncles were known as the Xalinos and they made most of the musical instruments on the island, such as guitars, violins, and the uncommon Cavaqinho, a small four-string guitar”, explains Anané. Weekends would be spent with her family as they hosted the traditional Serenada, a gathering of family and friends featuring traditional food, drinks and music. Meals eaten together would soon give way to guitars and the gentle beat of percussion as, one by one, people would sing a “morna”, a melancholic but beautiful ode to past times spent on the islands. It was during this childhood that Anané’s vocal ability was first realized. Following several successful forays into music throughout her teens, Anané then moved to New York with nothing more than a bag full of clothes and a heart full of dreams. Immersing herself within the Big Apple’s burgeoning club scene, she soon met Latin House Music Star and now Grammy-Award-winning DJ/Producer Louie Vega, at once setting the wheels in motion for her talents to further develop. Impressed by Anané’s raw and natural talent, Vega featured her in the lineup of his prestigious Elements Of Life collective, in which she soon became an integral member. Anané has spent years honing her skills on the live circuit and is today known as a performer with a worldly and exciting stage presence. The famous entertainment empire Cirque De Soleil personally approached Anané to perform the opening song, titled “One Dream” composed and produced by Louie Vega and co-written by Blaze for the Super Bowl XLII pre-game show, and the subsequent performance of “One Dream” was watched by a worldwide audience of over 140 million people. From the clubs of Miami and New York to European venues in Paris, London and throughout Italy, Anané has since 2003 been traveling the globe performing at some of the world’s most respected festivals alongside Louie Vega and the Elements of Life collective. Japan’s own world-renowned Blue Note, Europe’s celebrated Montreux Jazz Festival, Finland’s Pori Jazz, Holland’s North Sea Jazz Festival, Cape Town’s Jazz and the UK’s own Womad Festival have all welcomed Anané, and with each energetic performance she has continued her development as an artist. On the production front, Anané has released a series of dance singles on one of the world's most respected independent imprints Vega Records, transcending genres while at the same time retaining her own signature style. Her edgy remake of the 1970s classic “Let Me Love You” by Bunny Mack is a perfect example of her ability to make any song her own, as is her emotional version of Yoko Ono’s “Walking On Thin Ice”. The imminent launch of her own NuLu imprint, meanwhile, will see Anané release forward-thinking world music infused with jazz, dance and chillout elements, produced both by music’s greats as well as bright new talent at the forefront of their respective scenes. For now though, “ananésworld” promises to redefine Anané in the eyes of her peers and those of her fans worldwide. A highly personal and spiritual reflection of her own life journey, Anané describes her album best, “It’s the essence of who I am,” she says. “These are my hopes, my aspirations and my dreams. It’s my global expression; soundtracks to moments in my life.” Anané’s current Tommy Boy single “Shake It” produced by Louie Vega and Da Groove Doctors featuring reggae maestro Mr. Vegas and New York’s own Tony Touch is already receiving widespread support across the US. The song is being hammered on the Eddie Mix’s popular lunch time mash up on Miami’s Power 96, is receiving props by respected tastemaker DJ Camilo on New York’s Hot 97, was recently added to regular rotation on DJ Vic Latino’s Long Island Party 105 and WNYZ – Pulse 87.7.This first single is just a taste of what’s to come from “ananésworld”, an expertly produced, debut album, reflecting a rich variety of musical and cultural influences, rhythms, emotions and life experiences. Anané’s dedication to her music is only matched by her equally strong sense of social responsibility, evident both in her Peace, Love & Musica project (providing support for disadvantaged children) and the Anane Vega Scholarship Fund which since 2006 has been encouraging continued education for vulnerable students. Anane is a truly contemporary global artist whose music speaks of life, love and lots of dancing to an audience as complex, cross-cultural and colorful as Anane herself. Listen, as the singer Billboard calls “a face to watch” welcomes you into “Ananésworld”.
