Tom Marshall, under his Marsh contraction, has created quite a stir with his unique and evocative brand of music. With wide appeal in crossing genres from trance to deep house, Marsh has developed a strong following that has seen him become a regular on the Silk Music imprint with a clutch of original and remix works. One of the prime movers in Silk's former Arrival Records imprint, his "Silk Music Pres. Marsh 01" was a ten-track tour de force, reflecting the UK producer's contribution to the label. Consistently supported by Above and Beyond and a victor in their "Record of the Week" competition with "Sleeping Now", Marsh is a master of his craft. Debuting on Proton Music, it is thus with great pleasure that we welcome Marsh to the label with his remix of Andre Sobota. Taking a deep rhythmic groove, full of 808 percussive flair and anchored to a rich bass line, Marsh's intelligent use of Sobota's melodic sequence provides a luscious offering that is as emotive as it is impressive, layered across multiple voices and counterpoint arpeggio sequence post-breakdown. The resultant work is a stylish debut offering.
Irish master, Gavin Mulhall, is no stranger to the Proton catalogues and the underground cognoscenti. An artist at the peak of his powers, Mulhall's Silinder soubriquet has featured on the catalogues and sets of the industry's finest labels and DJs with an impressive body of work. A career that began with the support of James Zabiela has gone on to see Silinder allied to such heavyweight imprints as Baroque, Stripped and Sudbeat. A regular on Proton with such iconic EPs as "Corrupt" and "Basement" and remixed by Dousk, Terry Grant and Sobota himself, the Silinder remix of "Concluded" continues to illustrate the Irishman's class and attention to detail. Encased in a rich and detailed rhythmic shell and hard-hitting kick, Silinder's smooth melodic sequences intelligently resonate the themes of Sobota's original, teasing out characteristics more fully in the breakdown that evolve into familiar territory in the third movement. A typically classy production sees Silinder's production technique to the fore once again.
A trio of global renown and equally well-respected in their own rights, Michael and Levan and Stiven Rivic have continued to dominate the underground dance scene with well over five-hundred production credits to their name across an eight-year period. Owners of the highly-respected Mistique Music and Kunai Records imprints, the blue chip label has served to develop the trio's own brand of music as well as countless others who have gone on to dominate the underground scene. Tulipa Recordings, Sudbeat and JOOF have all featured their trademark production flair, with the latter responsible for a remix of John 00 Fleming's 2010 hit, "Angel". With their debut appearance on Proton Music, Michael and Levan and Stiven Rivic have created a wonderfully effective groove-oriented offering that lilts across the stereo spectrum with its relaxed percussive cadence. Hinting at the melodic line so fundamental to Sobota's original, in early movements, a delicately evolving breakdown brings a host of additional production material in filtered pads and white-noise washes before the third movement reveals the ostinato further still in an intelligent and skilful use of pulsating rhythm and melody.
A trio of remixes from Marsh, Silinder and Michael and Levan and Stiven Rivic have brought Andre Sobota's track to a striking new conclusion.
