Krafted Chill Volume 2 – Compiled by Simon Sinfield (Krafted Records)
The sun had no sooner set on summer 2017, when we knew we had to follow up August's sun-drenched Krafted Chill Volume 1 with an offering for early 2018: and it's here! Last year's favourite artists are back by the bucket-load, but there are new kids on the block too, all helping us make this edition an altogether darker affair - but not too dark.
Our opener is from the silky-smooth The Sunshine Collective: and we know you're gonna Dig This! And let's face facts, it wouldn't be Krafted Chill without The Cloudshapers, once again paying homage to a classic track, but with his trademark twist. Koolboy's back, natch, after smashing it on Vol 1. Old skool fans, you'll love the vintage choon Been a Long Time's based on (go on, guess: and don't forget to pump up the volume). Reinforcing their chill credentials once again are Roberto Morelli, who sprinkles twinkling, shining, Stardust over our confection, and the Cuckoo Hill Orchestra get Lost in the Woods. Meanwhile, sample freaks will love the whole 50s' B-movie feel of Strangeness Minus Three from returnees, Stormshaker.
Despite what you've heard, the Krafted crew are no couch potatoes, but each one of us is a self-confessed Sofa Loafer. You will be too, when you sink back in your cushiest cushions to wallow in Moonwatcher's relaxing groove. Also new to Krafted is old hand Sanny X, who's gifted a very special version of his own single, created exclusively for us. It comes complete with laid-back bossa nova beats, vocals to veg out to, and Spanish guitar courtesy of Funky Spacer. If that lot doesn't have you dreaming of Brazilian beaches, we don't know what will!
Krafted is very proud to introduce Hannah Elkins and her superb interpretation of Dua Lipa's spectacular summer smash, New Rules. Solar Wolf's Karma already sounds like a classic Ibiza sundowner staple, while Krafted mainstays Paul Sawyer and Simon Sinfield team up for Vol 2's penultimate piece: a deliciously minimalist slice of back-to-basics slow-burn piano-led house.
And finally, 7 Days to Christmas bring up the rear with a cracker of a cover from the seminal 1980 punk-pop musical movie, Breaking Glass, for which Vicky Barents reworks of one of the greatest sax solos of the decade, and possibly of all time! She's a genius, trust us.
