Jay Tripwire & Alexander East's 'Do Me This Way' was originally released on Canadian label, Leaf Recordings back in 2004 and has been a record that has stuck in many a record box ever since. In fact the idea for this re-release idea came when MarcAshken and the DeadEcho boys from Save You both realised it was one of their favourite old school slabs and a record they were all still playing all these years on. Now this classic track is brought back into the limelight with a stunning set of remixes for 2011.
The single kicks off with the original version, a bumpin and shuffling slab of old school house with a tight rhythm track and restrained melodic elements that provide a perfect base for East's understated but highly effective vocal offering. It may be 7 years old but this record still sounds incredibly fresh and current.
The remixes begin with a reworking from Seattle based producer Pezzner, a man who has been making outstanding electronic music for the last 2 decades, releasing through labels such as Classic and Freerange. Here he takes the original and twists things up with a wonky and incessant loop that gives the track an instant late night appeal. Intense and driving this is a surefire winner that is certain to become a staple for DJs in the months to come.
Next up we have long time 'Do Me This Way' fan and Leftroom house hero MarcAshken at the controls. Ashken takes a deep and dubby approach, bringing up the bass and making the most of the vocal to create a brilliant new version that both respects the original and show's his own unique character as a producer.
Finally we have rising stars DeadEcho who deliver an excellent stripped and techy mix that draws on rich analog synths and taut broken beats interspersed with the cut up vocals of Alexander East to provide a perfect final version.
Jay Tripwire's 'Do Me This Way' is certainly a record worth revisiting, and with remixes of this caliber this is a single package that is not to be missed.
