Blood & Honey is a statement that can be taken many ways. You can look at it in a literal sense. Two separate physical products that are both essential to life. Blood for life and honey for sustenance. It can be looked at as a juxtaposition. The best of times versus the worst of times. Bitter against sweet. Pain against pleasure. Loss against hope. Our blood is a dynamic element. It carries through our body all of the necessary elements required for living. It also contains the influence, memories and conditioning of all of our ancestors. Their blood flows in ours thus defining who we are and who we were. It also defines us in the eyes of other people, whether its positively, negatively, justly or unjustly. In times of struggle our blood is spilled. Sometimes it is in honor, sometimes in shame. Sometimes at the hands of others, and other times, our own . The blood of men, both glorious and shamed, has seeped into the earth to become part of a cycle. The cycle which creates life from death. From the blood comes a single flower, which will sustain a bee, which will deliver the honey back to the masses from which one has fallen. It is this cycle which perfectly represents the juxtaposition of Blood & Honey. The inspiration for this record comes from a place which has known glory and pain. Where neighbors have turned against each other based solely on which blood flows within their veins. Where conflict and peace ride waves like those in the ocean. During conflict blood represents the pain of those lost. And in peace, honey symbolizes the bountiful joy of knowing that tomorrow is coming.
