From his home in Serres, Northern Greece, Simos Tagias has emerged as one of the underground dance industry's brightest talents. Since an early debut for Lynx Records in late 2012, over a triple century of production credits now sit proudly next to his name, perfectly illustrating a sizeable talent at the top of his game. A much-desired sound coupled with a genuine personality has seen Tagias sought by a raft of leading imprints including: Movement Recordings, Stellar Fountain and Balkan Connection. Regularly supported by the DJ elite that includes Hernan Cattaneo, Cid Inc. and Nick Warren, Tagias has also found himself a regular across the clubs of his home country and beyond, sharing the stage with the Guy J, Luis Junior and Moshic. Performances at Block33 in Thessaloniki and the Bloque Festival, Kavala, have only served to enhance an already impressive reputation.
A regular on Particles with original tracks that included the successful, "Drunk State" in July 2014 and remixes of James Monro and Antrim in 2015, Tagias quickly graduated onto Proton Music. Centred around January 2017's "Airlock" EP, the twin-track offering was a notable highlight, going on to see subsequent remixes from Cristian R and James Monro at the end of the year. Remixing Soulwerk, Luc Angenehm and Tim Penner demonstrated a different side to the Simos Tagias production persona, as he now returns to Proton with another exquisite diptych.
Based around a bouncing groove and driving beat, the title track is a wonderfully crafted piece that bristles with melodic energy. Through grooved arpeggios, textured pads and a raft of spot effects, "Audacity" builds in momentum with its use of shimmering analogue keys and growling bass phrasing. Full of sublime production technique and a mature sound, the track erupts into the third movement with an immaculate combination of perfectly synchronous rhythm and melody.
Partner track, "Elaza" retains the same rhythmic prowess as its predecessor as it drives relentlessly forward with heavy kick and intricately programmed percussion. Adding layers of sound as it develops, a collage of sounds emerges through the rhythmic foundations as pads and white-noise effects, redolent in long-tailed reverbs and endless delays, create a rare sense of space and texture. A melodic phrasing evolves at the mid-point breakdown to dramatic effect before joining forces with the cadenced framework in the third movement, to create a sure-fire dancefloor favourite.
A pair of new tracks sees Simos Tagias with the "Audacity" to take the underground dance scene by storm.
