Ferdy Ouderkerken is no stranger to the world of electronic dance production. The Dutchman, who calls the small town of Sneek home, 100 miles from the Amsterdam capital, has combined a passion for dance music, founded upon seeing Sasha at "Loveparade", with a "fascination for bands like The Doors and Dire Straits" in his youth and latterly the inspiration of Thom Yorke, into an extraordinary production sound.
His talent spotted from an early age, a trio of singles for Global Underground were followed by a quartet of tracks for Armin van Buuren together with fellow countryman, Mathijs van Dijk. Work with Edwin Mulder continued Ferdy's assault on the blue chip label fraternity as Eelke Kleijn's Outside The Box and Nick Warren's Hope saw "Trainstation" and "Marble Hill" bring considerable success. Particles also continued to be a constant companion for Ferdy's work with over twenty production credits to his name including 2012's spectacular seven-track "Spaceman" and 2013's dazzling "Crossroads" EPs.
Already remixed by Navar and Pole Folder and with a penchant for "interesting collaborations", Ferdy now joins forces with fellow Sneek resident, Daniel van der Zwaag as the duo cement a relationship established among the clubs of their hometown where they have developed a reputation for the finest deep house and techno sounds. Taking their symbiotic relationship forged on the decks, Ferdy and Daniel van der Zwaag now delight the Particles faithful with a superlative offering via their "Raindrops" EP.
The title track itself is a combination of metronomic house beats combined with a gently evolving melodic sensitivity that is full of emotive poise. A vocal sample lilts and pitches delicately in regular rhythmic pattern as a deep and sustained bass line adds weight and richness. A filtered lead line that modulates with low frequency oscillation and distortion is a final addition to a track full of emotion and grace.
A name perhaps inspired by the love found in a developing relationship, "Emmy" delivers a delightful percussive groove that shuffles with hi-hat flourishes, deep kick drum and rhythmic metallic hit. Melodic sequences entwine gracefully as soft pads add further layers of texture to a multi-faceted work that exudes joy and emotion.
A pair of tracks from Ferdy and Daniel van der Zwaag provides an award winning performance as their "Raindrops" sparkle like jewels.
