Fracus & Darwin's debut artist album is a seminal piece of the modern Hardcore landscape, showcasing a versatile production duo free from the constraints of commercial pressure. Released on the independant 'Hardcore Underground' label, 'Balancing Act' manages to touch upon such a wide range of influences and styles within an already eclectic genre. There really is something for almost everyone on this album. The melodic masterpieces are here in the ethereal 'Come Home' and 'Falling Out Of Love', there's the powerful guitar driven Drum'n'Bass of 'Out Of Control', the Hard Dance edged 'Realms & Rough-Cuts' and just about everything in between. Dancefloor favourites 'Comin' Down' and 'Start Again' are joined by the techno driven rhythms and twisted programming of 'Subsystem', and the bone-rattling yet delicately pieced together Dubstep of 'Breakaway'. A variety of vocalists are utilised to great effect alongside the trademark high-quality production. This makes for a continually refreshing listening experience. 'Balancing Act' is truly an artist album, touching often on influences and ambitions that stretch way beyond the boundaries of the traditional UK Hardcore scene, whilst simultaneously managing to remain utterly true to it's many varied roots.
