DescriptionThe first installment of Derek Howell's "Laughing While Running" EP was released in high summer to blistering acclaim and support for title track, "Laughing It Up" from many of Proton's 'great and good' including Aeron Aether, Embliss, Jondi and Spesh and Lowbit's Sonic Union. With a high-class remix from Kassey Voorn gaining further international recognition, Proton is proud to release the second part of this impressive pair of EPs.
Derek Howell needs no introduction with his contributions to Proton specifically, and the EDM world in general. Helping to launch Proton Music in 2004 and as show co-host of "Man To Man with Master Lux" on Proton Radio with Joshua Michael, Derek burst onto the scene with his work for Bedrock in 2004. Over 250 track credits later have seen his music released on a plethora of labels including Lost Language, Hope, Global Underground and microCastle. Derek's original of "Making A Run For It" is a wondrous trademark collage of groove and searing lead-line that weaves a fascinating modulated pattern across the entire track as other elements ebb and flow around it.
Chris Fortier is an American production luminary whose name is synonymous with high-profile success. As founder of the legendary "Balance Record Pool" and also of Fade records in 1994, his critically acclaimed 2005 "Balance 007" compilation was at the vanguard of the bright and innovative sounds that would become the hallmark of the dance music explosion in the years that followed. Fortier himself has been at the forefront of EDM (across both the US and the world) with over 350 production credits to his name on Beatport alone, a critically acclaimed artist album in 2007 and releases under his 40oz guise on Bedrock, Kompakt, Olaris and Particles. With a global DJ itinerary that racks up the air-miles, Tokyo, Buenos Aries, London and New York's "Twilo" have all played host to his musical knowledge and deck skills. Now Chris turns his attention to remixing Derek Howell with a beautifully constructed track, astutely echoing the original mix with its immaculate interpretation of Derek's lead-line. Behind it lies a blend of crisp beats and vocal elements to add yet further depth. Finally, Fortier's inclusion of his own "Melody Tool" makes his production work available for DJs and producers to be inspired still further.
With Derek Howell and Chris Fortier at the peak of their powers, their race is nowhere near run.
