Joshua Iz delivers the cosmic groovy goodness pulsating with subterranean bass lines and punchy percussion awash in a soundscape of ethereal chords and vocal samples that have powered his sound as a solo artist here on his Great Lakes Audio Recording debut, Make A Difference. Heavily influenced by the golden ages of house and downtempo in both Chicago and San Francisco, Iz creates a space all his own with an unmistakable vibe and flow only he can create. No matter if he chooses to dive into house, tech, downtempo, or even Dub Reggae, his talent shines through. Careening through the canyons of your mind, body and soul "Expander" is an epic encapsulation of decades of dance floor experimentation and production. You are transported to the packed, sweaty and locked in nights of one of Iz and Diz's sessions at Fabric in London or in San Francisco. The bass bounces, the drums kick, and the interstellar keys swirl, swell and echo in this 10 minute workout of any sound system. This track begs to be played out and loud! Joshua's incredible versatility is on full display with "Rafael", a psychedelic trip of a downtempo track filled with nods to the amazing chill out and downtempo compilations of the 90s that launched this sound globally. Everything here works to transport the listener to a different space and time. The title track "Make A Difference" comes right of the gate with a funky, chunky beat and soaring chords soon joined by a bass line created to unlock your hips and get you moving. A melodic female voice tells us to "Think very deeply about what you can do to make a difference" as the breaks dives deep. The creativity and polish on display here points to Iz's great skills not only as a producer but as an accomplished engineer. The "Think Deeply Dub" takes the house, tech and dub elements of Iz's sound and meshing them into a groove perfect for the darkest, deepest underground spaces. It pulses and vibrates with intent and menace in the best possible way. The 4 track EP Make A Difference does just that.
