With its eighth release, Republic returns to sunny Spain to bring music heads some warmth for the winter holidays. Emerging artist Tete De La Course (Jonathan Alvarez), who hails from Gijon and counts among the formidable roster of producers on DJ Ino's House Cafe Music, goes global with an offering that combines mellow Balearic vibes with solid and incisive new-school House technique. The title means "Let's make a deal" and Alvarez shows he means business with the orignal mix, a deep jam which layers melancholy strings and keys over a deceptively gritty, Latin-tinged percussion kit while a calm, deep-voiced Spanish narrator performs a touching spoken-word piece about commitment and perseverance. As the track builds to a suspenseful conclusion, whooshy tech keyboards vie with a jazzy sax to create an intoxicating melange perfect for afterhours on a chilly winter's morning. For the remix, Republic label chief Seph teams up with Ino to take the track in an edgier direction while retaining its melody and placid heart. Stomping percussion features rousing handclaps and a wicked snare reminiscent of classic House, while the brittle drum fills give the track a subtle live garage feel offset by spine-tingling chime effects. This is a cut that will inspire both reflection and joy in serious party heads. Spanish comrade Black Sun's reworking of the track is a downtempo treat that works a more traditional Balearic vein, though its playful and delicously jazzy keyboards and strings along with its wicked sub-bass earn comparison to Bonobo and other contemporary beatmeisters. It's a splendid way to wind down the year and another spot-on release from Republic....
