There is something about productions from Toby Tobias that is always so cleverly understated. Never one to over produce, over tempo or over try, Toby's tracks just seem to hang together with such ease and laidback slickness. Its our first release here at Nang from the UK-based DJ and things don't disappoint.
Proceedings open up with 'Fluffy Fruit'. As with a lot of Toby's productions it not so much Nu Disco, but Disco done with a new and fresh sheen. Groove-laden drum programming, stabby keys and traces of the Toby staple acid 303 lines mix with old school lead lines and instrumentation. Next up is 'Rock You Will' which takes a more direct approach to the dancefloor. One for the mid-set here as Toby builds the tension with driving bass slabs before the analog sweeps and synths kick in.
The EP rounds off with the tile track, 'Chick Chick' as featured on the TIRK02 CD and often requested since. Jazzy Rhodes, flip-flopped bass-synth and quirky percussion produce another fine clever concoction. Tobys re-energized 2010 version rounds things up, stripped back and being even more clever and even more understated.
