Vaults EP

  • Description Entering its second year of existence, Marcin Czubala Your Mamas Friend label here turns to former Red Bull Music Academy graduate MNSL for a three track EP of club ready house sounds entitled Vaults.

Formerly known as Monosylabikk, MNSL has previously released on labels like Kitty Yo! and has a knack for filling his warm structures with plenty of bendy melodies and infectious samples. The opener here, Vaults, does just that, with a wavy bottom end snaking beneath distant female cries and wobbly melodies.

Next up, Oh Over again demonstrates MNSLs ability to lay down off kilter melodies and quirky grooves. A blend of crisp percussion, hurried claps and fat basslines all warp and wrap around each other tightly, trapping you in the middle as they go, arresting your attention at the same time as demanding you dance.

Finally, Headlight is a fresh melange of weird sounds, wooden kicks and yelping vocal samples. Sounding like little else, the track treads a line between house and minimalism, with plenty of inventive sound design throughout. Importantly, though, its never in place of a groove you can really get your teeth into.

Always treading its own path away from the tried and tested norm, both MNSL and Your Mamas Friend are on to another great thing here.
