The latest release on Nikko.Z's Dopamine Music welcomes Paul Deep to the label for his debut EP. The Argentinean artist has enjoyed a strong 2017. His unique brand of progressive music has already been showcased on Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint and Balkan Connection's BC2 division. Now making his much anticipated debut on Dopamine Music Paul presents his latest two track EP entitled 'Consciousness State'.
Hernan Cattaneo has been a long time supporter of Paul's music, having showcased many of his original productions and remixes over the years, most notably perhaps a bootleg interpretation of Alex Niggemann's classic 'Materium'. The lead cut here 'Consciousness State' looks set for a similar fate with its hypnotic motifs and melodic sensibilities. Getting underway with a tough, driving groove the piece builds momentum as waves of percussion and rugged rhythms flow through the framework. It's a lesson in restraint with a short break providing an energy bridge at the three and half minute mark before the chugging groove reassembles and powers forward. The magic moment comes during the second and final break with a drummy build revealing a brief but delightful melody before a wave of white noise delivers the final charge home.
The companion piece 'Rejected' comes in with a similar design profile and sits as a perfect complement to 'Consciousness State'. A touch more techno inspired, it's energetic beats and phasing rhythms build mightily before a dark, lead line gets dropped in during the first break. Kaleidoscopic in nature the cascading lead theme brings electric moments all throughout a strong second act before one final break pushes the modulation higher for an intense finale. Two outstanding productions from Paul and perhaps the defining work of his career thus far. Highly Recommended.
