Born in the UK, Steve started taking piano lessons aged 7, but after buying "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC, he became more interested in playing the guitar. By 14 he was already going to rock concerts (Motörhead, Saxon, Iron Maiden) but he was also listening to electronic music such as the Human League and Tears for Fears. He saw Depeche Mode play in 1986 but soon became more interested in bands like The Cult, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and a band he saw twice at Reading Rock (his first-ever festival, 1987/1988) - Fields of the Nephilim. After a year traveling around Europe, Turkey, Israel, and Egypt he returned to the UK, eager to get back to the festivals and the live music
