ODA Digital Records
Sound Modulation, Volume 2
Release: April, 15th 2011
You gotta love Nicky Zimmer!! Volume Two of the Sound Modulation series should place ODA Digital squarely at the forefront of indie electronic dance labels to be on the lookout for in 2011. She is steadily amassing a roster of quality artists who are consistently outstanding and dancefloor ready.
Dropping science in the progressive house, tech house and techno genres, this compilation is a quick peek into the future. Running the gamut from the stylish progressive house of DJ Tarkan, to the sophisticated techno brilliance of Larry Powers, to the tech house mastery of prodigy Hassan Abou Alam, to the nasty techno grooves of Alexander Fog, many bases are covered here with excellent results.
DJ Tarkan's "Uzun Yol" is a swinging progressive house masterpiece with crystalline beats. Mehmet Akar & Aries Aquarius get remix treatment from HP. Hoeger and offer a radio-friendly, piano-driven, jazzy smoothed out "No More Bus". Jonny Calypso lends a helping hand to Hassan Abou Alam on "Alsson", a rollicking, funky slice of tech house.
Nasty Family crew honcho Alexander Fog weighs in with "Gravity Glue", a jacking techno jaunt with a clever groove and "Brain Trainer" a monster mutant tribal track with a nod to Africa. Per usual, Tech Stan delivers the goods with "Brainsick", a soaring hands up in the air track that is dancefloor crack and "Deeper Relax" assisted by Larry Powers which is both hypnotic and well crafted (and a beast for me at WMC 2011).
Damir Pushkar & Dub Way's "Ausfahrt A661" is all about the spacy annihilating rhythm. Mass Digital "Control" is chock full of rugged beats and peaks and rises to a fever pitch. Hassan Abou Alam highlights the whole set with his ferocious, hip-breaking "Resurgam" with it's almost Stonebridge-esque groove. RauteMusik.FM's DJ Kaya tops things off with a yummy continuous mix. Top job by all, this is a keeper!!
