Justin James took his first SCI+TEC steps back in 2012 when his ‘Club City’ track featured on Dubfire’s ‘A-Transmission’ mix. With the label boss impressed, the Canadian producer was invited back to release a full debut at the turn of 2013. His ‘Shallow Dreamer’ ep was another major stepping stone for James, who had already featured a track on Richie Hawtin’s Minus12.
Justin's relationship with Minimal Techno’s leading labels has continued and 2015 is shaping up to be his strongest year yet. Remixing Marc Houle for Minus and releasing his 'Meteorite EP’ on Popof’s Form Music has warmed us nicely ahead of his new SCI+TEC outing, ‘Planned Deviation’.
The title track is a powered by the roar of a mechanical beast. Dark, bubbling beats ripple beneath this growling monster that lays in the shadows. Staying under the cover of darkness is ‘Nor Can You’ with its moody ‘I tried to forget all this’ vocal and rubbery beats and bass. Another fine SCI+TEC release from Justin James.
