The fusion of tropical/jungle sounds in house music is nothing new, but just as the rainforest itself, this musical exploration will forever be ongoing. Cake Eater is proof of that with his debut album on San Francisco's Bad Shoes Records. Building upon said fusion of jungle electro breaks, Jangala provides a new take on a classic theme and it does so outstandingly. The album keeps consistent themes like indigenous chants and dark landscapes over heavy, low-toned bass lines that sit comfortably over funky break drum beats. With increasing intensity throughout the album, every song delivers new punches while building on the previous one. Jangala sounds like a strange, beautiful place you've never been before: mysterious, dark, sometimes bright, but always fun and you just don't want to go home yet.
