Describing his recent output as "non music" and "sermon," London-based producer 0comeups continues this trajectory with his latest release, One Deep, on Geng's Purple Tape Pedigree label. Over 5 tracks, he explores disparate sonic textures that come together to create a virtual studio technology for laptop producers somewhere in an alternate hyperreality. Although aiming not to reveal too much of himself in this collection of songs, wanting it to sound like a "preset library demo," there still remain traces of 0comeups' emotions in the project's synthetic layered vocals, dreamy pads, and blunted clamors - generating themselves seemingly out of nowhere, only to digitally disintegrate moments later.
One Deep stands as both the closing chapter to Purple Tape Pedigree and the shift into a new mode of operation as simply "PTP." After 15 releases in the last 12 months - with 3 more from years prior - this transformation comes through a yearning to deviate further away from old molds of reference. What will remain is the focus on increasingly extreme sonics and collaboration, while embracing a signature design approach. The celebration of moving beyond previous vision: the graduation from an old flesh.
