Istanbul-born Erhan Kesen was always deeply interested in music, but he also had some benefical relationship with it. Music was his primary saviour during his technical drawing lessons at high-school, where he had to sit still and draw for 7 to 8 hours. Trying to run away from boredom, he would put on his earphones and be accompanied by soul, funk and acid jazz gods such as Prince, James Brown and Jamiroquai. Soon, earphones became his favourite accesories. He then was introduced to Derrick May’s music and instantly attracted in electronic sounds.Turning 18 was such a joyful moment for Erhan, he was finally allowed to clubs! He instantly started checking what was going on around, an he became a frequenter at Istanbul’s legendary performance venue Babylon. It was such a sacred night, when Babylon’s resident DJ didn’t show up and suddenly he found himself warming-up for the French acid-jazz band, No Jazz. The night was a big succes and Erhan was offered a position as the new resident DJ of the club. There he warmed up for Gilles Peterson, Gotan Project, Jazzanova Live and Bugge Wesseltoft.Musician and owner of the renowned New York club Nublu, Ilhan Ersahin entered the scene offering 21-year-old Erhan the residency of his new club Nublu East in Istanbul. As a young and emerging DJ, he accepted and hosted acts such as Bebel Gilberto, Erik Truffaz.However, Erhan’s interest in electronic music was growing stronger in him. He started working with two leading electronic music Dj of Turkey, Murat Uncuoglu and he performed at Istanbul’s best clubs such as Anjelique, Milo, Ghetto, Vibe and Lux where he still holds a residency.In 2009, Erhan enrolled in Audio Engineering Program of SAE Institute as one of the first students of the school’s Istanbul branch. During his studies he also continued producing and releasing music from labels like Phat Elephant of Amsterdam,Tenampa of Mexico,Teknikal Rotation of Istanbul and Suxul Music of Germany. Despite being young, Erhan Kesen is now a well-known DJ and producer in his country, he participates in various projects, performs at many venues and he has no intention to slow down.
