Whether crafting meditative ambience for the headphones or kinetic workouts for the club, Arttu Snellman is probably one of the most diverse electronic dub producers around today. His work, always polished and nuanced, has found its way onto several labels such as Rrygular, Sub Static, Süd Electronic, and most recently, Jay Haze’s imprint Contexterrior. “You Need Me” is perhaps Lump’s most sublime creation in his seven-year repertoire -- melancholy, but with a sense of hope; rhythmically forging ahead while at once peacefully floating in midair, with the haunting voice sweetly singing the track’s title throughout. One of Arttu’s first tracks completed since his move to Lisbon from London, it’s a clear example that he’s been inspired into a new soulful direction. To follow, Sub Version – last seen on Soul Jazz Records’ Box of Dub compilations – offers a dubstep reinterpretation marked by intricate, off-kilter beats and cavernous filters that contrast the gentle and somber vocal motif.
