After the runaway success of Edgem's Secret Garden EP, which saw support from heavyweight DJs including Spooky & Slackk, the grime super-group returns to slay the dance with Terror Fortress. Uniting the talents of JT the Goon, Dullah Beatz and Boylan, the crew has spent 2015 running radio and perfecting their sound, ahead of unleashing a second help of fire. Title track Terror Fortress isn't for the weak of heart, opening with maximalist strings and JT's decontextualized bird chips, before exploding into an enormous, festival-ready drop. Balancing dance-floor ready gunshots and bass pulses with cinematic orchestration, it comes with a distinct underground UK-edge for the true massive. I See Everything keeps the momentum going, effortlessly switching between quick-footed rhythmic energy and a half-step, Hip-Hop inspired stomp while paranoia-inducing police sirens wail in the background. Conversely, Route One showcases Edgem's more restrained side, riding a trailing bass line while the roughneck percussion slowly morphs and twists into new shapes. Finally, the Crypt ends on a vicious note combining stomping bass to melodic G-funk leads. Catch Edgem on Radar Radio, first Tuesday of every month 8-10pm...
