„Danse Avec Moi“ is a proper love song. It is also Nôze’s first ever song in French, and so with typical perversity, they thought it might be amusing to call upon an American to do the singing – the wonderful Dani Siciliano, best known for her albums for !K7 and litany of collaborations with Matthew Herbert. Dani duets elegantly with David Lafore (who also penned the song’s lyrics) over a propulsive, swinging 4x4 drum tattoo, bouncy bassline, rippling harp and lavish string arrangements. As is so often the case with Nôze, the piano is at the forefront of the arrangement, providing not just straightforward melody and harmony but eminently danceable rhythm. It is an anthem in the making.
You should know better than to expect a straightforward remix from Kompakt’s resident mad scientist, DJ Koze. He is like a kid in a sweet shop, cutting and pasting the rich instrumental elements of Nôze’s original into a jagged, jazzy patchwork of double bass, plangent brass chords, brushed drums and treated vocal samples. If there is a ballroom on Mars, this is probably their preferred soundtrack. Kose lives up to his reputation with seven minutes of warped genius that you absolutely need to hear.
BPitch Control’s techno auteur Sascha Funke aims squarely for the club with his soaring, sensitive remix. A honey-glazed synth arpeggio and shuffling snares flutter off the locked-down bassline and 4x4 kick, as choice excerpts of Dani’s vocal are deployed to bewitching effect. This is a rich, hypnotic dancefloor cruiser that is an essential addition to all discerning DJs’ boxes.
You Nôze it makes sense…
