ANODYNE007 sees the coming together of two of the most exciting names in drum & bass from the Southern hemisphere. AU/NZ-based Anodyne Audio have hooked up with New Zealand's Hooves, for the new Crucible/Red Sands release.
Anodyne have made a name for themselves, with listeners always being guaranteed quality music from both new and established artists. Names such as Dose, Andy Pain, nScape and more have already graced the label, and now it is the turn of Hooves, whose original, bass-loaded beats have taken the world by storm. As well as his production, Hooves has graced many stages via his work with Shapeshifter, taking his influences from jazz and rock into drum & bass and beyond.
Crucible drops you straight into Hooves' world, with its creeping, stealthy opening, where ticking effects are match by an eerie, unsettling key line. Things soon step up, with the pace increased and the drums hitting hard. Nod your head, bust a move and feel the groove of Crucible. You can instantly feel the skills, passion and precision of the producer on this one, as he adds live drumming into the mix later, and some funk-fuelled bass runs. True quality, true imagination from Hooves.
Red Sand meanwhile, which has already been supported by BTK on the Optiv & BTK Dutty Audio podcasts, is something else entirely. A balmy, relaxing intro melds into a fascinating build section, before dropping into a rising, electronic main. The producer uses all of the skills at his disposal, with running beats, inventive samples and soul-affirming, warm sounds, creating a whole which is futuristic, innovative and not afraid to be different. Hooves has done it again, providing Anodyne with another two slices of essential drum & bass music.
Make sure you check out ANODYNE007 for beats which are going to move you, bass that is going to groove you, and two tracks you are going to be listening to far into the future.
