From the onset his productions have been a figurative Atlantic Ocean, a space between but still connecting the classic soul of Detroit influenced techno and the shuffling percussions of its UK iterations.
The Cross The Line EP widens his net both geographically and stylistically by delving into acid house territory. Each track was inspired by his love of 303 emulators, and the small collection of German techno from the turn of the millennium that he has amassed. What enticed him about these particular tracks is what he describes as "rawness," the fact that each is mainly built on percussion and bassline.
The title track "Cross The Line" does exactly that, placing an acid-style bassline and a vocal sample over erratic claps and textbook four to the floor kick. Basic structure and elements are all Mark Adam requires to create a solid dance floor ready piece. The Dub Mix provides the instrumental, stripping the vocal sample adding further subtractive simplicity while maintaining effectiveness.
"Process" steps further into acid house instrumentation, bringing in squelchier sounds from higher registers that sometimes characterize the genre. Paired with Adam's signature shuffling drums, it develops into a track with character and classic appeal.
Cross The Line EP is a failsafe pick up for any acid enthusiast, or anyone looking for a modern production that incorporates the raw nature of retro urban dance music.
