Safari Electronique head honcho Arnaud Le Texier steps up to the plate to deliver a mighty home run with his "Blunt Edge" ep. Its been a whole twelve months since the Arnaud last graced the label, but since that time we have been treated to releases on Cocoon, Bass Culture and Children Of Tomorrow as well as remixes for Etruria Beat, Bulletdodge and Traum.
The "Blunt Edge" ep is a complete Le Texier package. Lead track "Perlouze" matches the delicacy of handclaps with an hammer-like industrial kick and its cold metallic sounds dominate it's essential warm under-texture. Its polar opposite immediately follows in the form of "Body Smile." Whilst we have an equally potent kick-drum, the mood and textures are smooth and sweeter, helped in no small part by the by the acoustic bass and violin. Arnaud closes the release with the classic house sounds of the title track. Belying it's name, "Blunt Edge" portrays anything but. Precise rasping hats and key stabs make this is the sharpist of musical tools. Staying true to its name however is the inimitable, Mr. G. Having recently stated that it's "always been about the bottom end", G demonstrates in stunning style. His 'blunted' bassline is a true ribshaker, omnipresent yet understated. Together with those hats, echoed vocal and drilling snares, G creates the filthiest of moody grooves.
