CSM continues its open minded vision of expansive and genre defying music. Label partner Dave Turov returns with a jazz influenced techno single joined by multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Dewalta (Vakants David Koch) on saxophone.
The A1 title track Poplock starts with techno rhythm
fundamentals, adds layers of electric bass, percussion, and
Dewaltas excellent work on baritone and alto sax harmonizing into a full horn section. Poplock is big, musical, and funky. Just dont ask us if it goes in the house or techno folder.
The beats version Beatlock follows in A2. Sans saxophone, the drums come to the foreground resulting in darker 123 bpm techno. Echoing hypnotic effects take the track in several directions, giving the user functional sections to loop, layer, and improvise with.
On the flip at B1, Pär Grindviks Feel Up Rework takes aim
directly at techno. Grindviks signature massive sound comes through loud and clear adding Detroit inspired synths and serious drama.
Rounding out the record Echologist aka Brendon Moeller gives us his Dublock Mix heavy in the bass and dripping in dub. His mix finds equally happy homes covered with smoke in large, dark clubsor more intimate daylight venues.
