BLOND:ISH certainly caused a fair amount of raised eyebrows and turning heads when they dropped their debut album WELCOME TO THE PRESENT (KOMPAKT 341 CD 127) last year - and decided to circumvent their club comfort zone by unleashing the full extent of their psychedelic and spiritual influences on unsuspecting crowds. The result was an intoxicating full-length that found sonic boldness in a melding of new age, world music, ambient field recordings and club beats. For the WELCOME TO THE PRESENT REMIXE bundle, the duo continues their electro-mystical journey and present a spirited selection of remixers and collaborators, with both established players and cross-genre newcomers chiming in. Album highlight NADA BRAHMA gets firmly bolted to the dance floor by Swedish house/techno producer Jesper Dahlbäck aka THE PERSUADER, while we see the shadowy funk of JUPITER & JAGUAR being reincarnated as snappy house bouncer by young NYC soundsmith DAMIEN K. SAHRI - one of a new breed of globe-trotting artists that find their inspirations in both folkloric and electronic dance music. For new original cut INNER JUNGLE, Blond:ish opted for Indian musician BAHRAMJI (known for his mastery of Persian instruments like the santoor, the settar or the ney, a bamboo flute), followed by a hypnotic desert rock version of LUCY'S AFFAIR from Dutch agent provocateur SAN PROPER, complete with throaty spoken words, rattlesnake percussion and bottleneck bass. A world music flavored downbeat take on MAYAN CARAVAM wraps up this release, executed by Berlin-based producer nomad NU and fellow traveller LUM (hailing from Tulum, Mexico, where Blond:ish recorded their debut album) - a fittingly immersive conclusion to this remix bundle.
