For those who heard the album, the conclusion was unmistakable - the unrelenting machine-like atmosphere made it poised to become a very notable, memorable and artistic techno release for those familiar with its cult status.
Topology was one of the first artists recruited to the TECHNO.BLACK label which has become a platform for her follow-up EP entitled "Tokyo Sunrise."
One of Topology's aims with this release was to transport techno down different avenues. True to its name, "Fantasy" is a computerized, dreamlike chill-out creation that captivates with every pound of the kick drum.
"Tokyo Sunrise" captures a serene yet bustling metropolis as the first hints of dawn sunlight creep in. It's dark and ambient, with intriguing percussion and droning melodies that capture Topology's flair for the experimental.
The demure "Hokkaido Wine" ventures into tech-house territory, with an upbeat jack that floats over an airy, ethereal backdrop of quaint sounds.
"Yakuza Encounter" picks up where her previous album left off - a return to the stripped-down industrial warehouse techno that brought Topology to the attention of so many. She stays true to the roots of the genre with a commanding bass drum, and simultaneously incorporates the atmospheric computerized drone of previous tracks.
The Tokyo Sunrise EP is yet another example of Topology's ability to be complex, experimental and avant-garde while still remaining dance-floor focused.
