Sulk Magic welcomes the newest edition to the Sulk Magic family in tecwaa. The York based newcomer has come to the fore with his unconventional & wistful soundscapes. Three originals bolstered with three remixes by Sulk Magic bastion Force Majeure, Lithuanian hot-shot Urexboyfriend and label linchpin Bird of Paradise.
The title track 'El Kopan' demonstrates tecwaa's gift for the forlorn, warm synths and intricate melodies float over altering percussion before 'Uwisara' slaps down a phat drum beat, just the supporting caste to an audaciously nonchalant bass line. There's much to admire about the last offering, hypnotic rhythms reign supreme and only add to the homogenous wooziness of '19th Street Lost'.
Bird of Paradise throws any sense of musical consistency into the air, twisting and purposefully constricting for his version of 'Uwisara', whilst 'El Kopan' gets endearingly frantic as Urexboyfriend fits it with his own physical restraints. Force Majeure finishes proceedings with his take on '19th Street Lost', a Moroder esque interpretation with rhythmic arpeggios and suspense filled guitar lines.
