On June 9th, Night Slugs is set to release 'Salvage 2017 ' a new four-track EP by the label head, London-based DJ and producer Bok Bok.
This is Bok's most directly grime-informed material since 2011's 'Southside' and 'Silo Pass', following 2016's 'Unlimited' collaboration with Sweyn J and scene legend, Flirta D.
Written under leaden grey skies, the EP rejects the optimistic self-affirming narratives of 2014's 'Your Charizmatic Self' and instead embraces a stormy lived reality. The tracks are stark, stripped back and functional, with a bitter sense humour at work. Even opening track 'Island Hopping', the brightest of the bunch, still carries dread in its grinding low end and relentless 8-bar logic and while 'PR Drawbridge' offers a moment to breathe, the crunching loops of 'Know Already' and 'Salvage Lurkin' keep the atmosphere tense.
Built with raw 12-bit samples, the tracks are inspired by and intended for DJs, MCs, radio sets and sweaty, blacked-out dancefloors.
