Hot on the heels of their first two releases from Sinistarr and Cameron Traxxx. Grandcity is back with another hit. This time label co-founder, Phate aka Jay Stevens is showcasing his skills with his ep, "Visually Pleasing".
One of Phate's many talents is being a master of creating tunes that balance groove and a cerebral deepness. This has led to his prior work has appearing on both beatport and juno as a best seller. "Visually Pleasing" will surely continue this tradition.
From the first kick drum to the drop of the melodic sub bass groove, "Late Nights" is a perfect example of Phate's dynamic ability of balance and depth. The song is immediately danceable and layered with perfect amounts of percussion and melody. It's one of those tracks that stand out in any dj's set but also provides enough flexibility to be a perfect tool for creating a secret blend.
On "We Ain't Doing Nuthin" Phate showcases his hip-hop influence. The track still brings the four-on-the-floor house musical sensibility but the influence of hip-hop is brought in on top. It's a track that's both funky and fun as hell.
If anything "Visually Pleasing" keeps up with Grandcity's flawless track record of high quality. Just as their motto states "Good people, Good time, and Good tunes".
