DAWN005 sees RQ look back once again to pay homage to one of his earliest D&B influences. 'Intelligent' Drum & Bass was unusual for RQ to fall in love with as up until that point it was furious dark Jungle and other heavier beats.
That 'Good Looking' sound has always remained with the producer, even in the depths of minimal ambient works, the thread remains. With Cherry and Glass Serpent though RQ forgoes any genre jumping or subtle nods and goes straight back to the source... simple, clean beats and beautiful atmospherics.
Cherry opens with oceanic pads and drifting atmosphere while the drums slowly fill in and smooth sub bass takes care of the bottom end. A glassy arpeggio soon takes main stage, dropping the track in to a hypnotic state. Skippy breaks and floating pads lead us in to Glass Serpent where a clean melody and cleaner bottom end meet before giving way to a beautiful Rhodes-like lead.
