Originally set up in 1994, Christian Smith’s Tronic label holds a special place in techno circles. A leading force in shaping a less purist techno sound Tronic was amongst the first labels to embrace sounds from house and techno to create records that DJ’s from both scenes would play; and so it is with excited expectation that Tronic makes its return. One of the most in-demand production outfits around, Christian Smith & John Selway are coming off a magical year. Releases for Drumcode, Bedrock, SCI+TEC and Renaissance have put them at the top of the sales charts and on countless DJs playlists. The legendary “Move!” (first released in 1996 on Carl Cox’s Intec label) returns to it’s spiritual home to mark the re-launch of Tronic. Originally support by everyone from Jeff Mills to Danny Tenaglia and famously included on Sasha’s seminal Ibiza Global Underground compilation, Move! is one of those records that has stood the test of time. For the re-launch package remixes have come from Steve Angello, and the hotly tipped Brazilian trio Dimitri Nakov, Gabe, and Ritkam (Dimitri & Gabe recently remixed Sasha’s “Park It In The Shade”). Angello’s remix remains pleasingly close to the original with just a few modern touches while Nakov, Gabe & Ritkam lend a deeper, progressive flavour.
