After the superbly moody, and massively popular EP from Ribn, Ovum Recordings return with what is their 200th Release. A fantastic achievement for a label that has always stayed true to it's cause, never following trends, and seeking only to release electronic music of the highest order. The reins of the 200th release have been entrusted to UK Producer, Label Owner and key player in the global techno scene, Perc (aka Ali Wells). Having produced and released singles since 2005, it was his 2007 release 'UP' on Kompakt that really shot him to fame. With its unmistakable, relentless rising tone 'UP' quickly lodged itself in the record boxes of the world's elite. Spanning genres as it did so. Hawtin, Luciano, Liebing, Slam, Digweed, Green Velvet, Lawler and Alkan were all instant fans. So to today and Perc's debut release for Ovum Recordings, the 'Mathlete E.P.'. Title track 'Mathlete' is an industrial soundscape. A living, breathing, composition, with a murmuring, metallic heart. Percolating bass, delicate mood changing synths, twisted wah-wah guitar and steel drum percussion, all make this moody opener a hit for the floor. For those of you who like your tools, Perc gives us his 'Math Beat'. Essential for your collection Rounding out the release is powerful 'Throb'. With a definite case of 'what lies beneath', the life source of the track can be heard, and on the finest sound systems felt, enveloping us. Gaining in strength. Peaking, then falling. The simplest, yet most powerfully crisp wood block, seems to hold the demonic bass at bay.
