A.K.A. Panasa from Afrobeat duo Bana Kuba.
From playing percussion from an early age Panasa soon learned that producing music was as fun as playing it.
Growing up in Bristol provided a sound base to pursue both these interests. Performing with Acid Jazz acts on stage and drumming over dance music in clubs gave Panasa ample opportunity to follow his beat fetish.
Panasa moved to London in 1993 and was taken in by the thriving house music scene there and decided to supplement his drums with turntables.
During this period he met Max Mistry, a talented DJ and producer who alongside San Fransisco's DJ Digit and DJ Efx, helped shape the sound of house music at the time.
It was not long before Max and Panasa were working on productions of their own and in 2000 formed Bana Kuba. Their first release 'Bare brass' featuring Dave 'the rave' Phillips on keyboards, was aired by Roger Sanchez on his kiss FM show as part of the 'essential mix sessions. This led to a release under Roger's own label, Stealth records.
Bana Kuba's success continued with other releases attracting the attention of record labels such as Slip'n' slide, Defected and Vendetta. The pair also gained recognition for their remixes of Blaze, Tigerstripes and Africano.
Under the Bearface moniker Panasa provides a cocktail of heavy beats and emotive elements that will keep you grooving until the cows come home.
