London born David Shilling is the founding father of modern hat design. His work is in the permanent collections of Metropolitan Museum of Art New York Los Angeles County Museum of Art Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Musee des Arts Decoratif the Louvre Paris which showed his work 20082010. He is a guest lecturer at London's Royal College of Art since 2013. "When I was young we all dreamed of becoming a Rock star. All my life I have loved music particularly dance." He always chose and arranged the music for his annual hat shows in London and for his shows and events around the world in Australia Brazil China France Germany Hong Kong India Monaco the Philippines Russia Sweden UK and the USA. In recent years he has added sound to his monumental sculpture installations and collaborated with Oli Langford to produce Aquafied a 40minute symphony of sound and silence. "I love a party and of course I love nightlife!" he says "Studio 54 in New York I was there for the best years of disco." He has enjoyed many of the best groundbreaking clubs like The Blitz The Marquee Embassy Legends The Scotch in London Queen Bains Douche and Regine's in Paris Les Caves du Roy St. Tropez King's Club and Dracula St Moritz and Jimmy'z Monte Carlo through The Fridge the Hippodrome Ministry of Sound Heaven GAY Room Service London and Pacha and now Ushaia Beach in Ibiza and the Box in New York and London. Going to Ibiza in the summer of 2013 made him determined to DJ and since then he had been honing his DJ skills. "If my listeners get a quarter as much fun from hearing my music as I do making it we should all be in for some wonderful times together."
