Miami and this years WMC. The warm rays of South
Beach are calling and Zoo:Technique are about to drop
some medically enhanced flavours in the lead up to the
Sicilian duo Larsen & Luca Marano began their
collaboration as DJ's, back in 2004. Their seamless sets
have seen them play throughout Italy and beyond.
Transferring that union to the studio came easily and
2008 saw their first work appear on Bini & Martini's
Ocean Dark label. Releases have followed, most notably
their EP's for Andre Crom's Off label. All of which have
found fantastic big name support.
Their "Boom Rush The Show" EP features three new
original productions. All featuring the pair's trademark
heavy-funk bassline's. Classic instrumentation and
arrangement is matched with oldskool vocal samples to
create a kind of 90's-naughties hybrid.
On the remixes, the label have invited some of the
brightest up and coming talent on board. First up are
Brazlian duo Paulo Boghosian and Andre Torquato.
Both key DJ's on the Brazlian club scene, Paulo holds
down monthly residencies at the legendary Warung & D-
Edge clubs. Together the pair have released work on
labels including Cecille and Yoruba, and Paulo's solo
production "Balaka" sat comfortably in the Top 5 of
Resident Advisor's most charted tracks, back in
September of last year.
Getting to grips with "Black Royal" the duo set the track
on more laidback groovefest. Harnessing the original's
bassline, they soften the feel, adding bongo's, smooth
pads and licks from a rhodes, to create a classy rework.
Next up is twenty one year old Italian, DJ Kool Dek.
Following many years of MC'ing, B-Boying, DJ'ing and
promoting parties, the time has come for our man to
drop some beats. With 2011 already looking positive,
with releases scheduled on Saved Records and Be At
One, Kool Dek steps up to rework our title track.
Face-slapping beats and rolling bass. Matched with the
soulful screams and massively filtered drops, make this
remix a real floor mover.
