Rise No More is the meditative debut solo release from artist/producer Subculture. It features Tertia May and is released on his own imprint, Twisted Hearts Records.
Written & recorded at an isolated coastline retreat on the edge of Cornwall, Rise No More imagines a serene end of the world.
Through his signature blend of Jazz, Hip Hop and Blues; Subculture expresses a feeling of awe invoked by the bleak landscape around him whilst internalising an anxiety brought upon by multiple global crises; Trump, Brexit, the Refugee Crisis and looming environmental catastrophes. The song is a lamentation to a 'sedated' world, a plea to "give us back time" when the sun no longer rises.
"It was a political and cultural moment where existential depression was flooding from the taps and many of us were taking a sip. Daily I'd watch the sunsets over this stormy coastline and the beauty and grandness felt so contentious with the fact that the world was going up in flames." - Subculture
Over the past 5 years Subculture has established himself as one of the most unique & noteworthy producers and song writers working in the UK. Through his work as one half of alt Hip Hop duo Subculture Sage as well as his work with many artists like Tertia May and TINYMAN, Subculture has infused his beats with Jazz, Indie, Soul, Hip Hop & Post-Punk in a way that defies categorisation.
Rise No More features Tertia May who has had a break out year landing onto the UK Soul scene with her debut EP 'Kind Of Purple'. She adds a soothing counterpoint to Subculture's struggle. On guitar it also features Ariel Cohen who co-directs Twisted Hearts Records with Subculture.
Rise No More is released on 28th September via Twisted Hearts Records.
