Perth, Australia seems to be the home of various Drum and Bass acts these days: names like Shockone and Phetsta come to mind, and soon enough, the names of Ekko & Sidetrack will come to your ears. Brothers Jeff and Jono Hansen, lend their hand in production for their debut release 'stay With Me / Deckard' onto British Drum and Bass label Tongue Flap Records.
the release starts off with leading track 'stay With Me', starting off with that rich liquid feel, adding to it with the carefree strums of an acoustic guitar with some carefully applied vocal chops. The track reaches what you're waiting for and it is does not disappoint, going right into your typical liquid affair with the Ekko & Sidetrack sound to it (and if you don't know it, you soon will). Come the second drop and you've got a magnificently orchestrated synthesised guitar teasing your ears with a little solo, adding to what the Ekko & Sidetrack started with in the first.
reaching the flip of this single comes 'deckard', which leads with a hardhitting affair, contrasting 'stay With Me', which starts off gentle on the ears. A track you might confuse with for a Phetsta release on the dancefloor, this track certainly gives off the 'space disco' feel that he's known for, with the added Ekko & Sidetrack flavour. The buildup to the drop leaves no disappointments, going on to efficiently cross liquid funk with space disco in such a way, that no one has gone so far to define it, but evidently the Hansen brothers have, in the form of 'deckard'.
while your alone you may decide to venture the road of the aural pleasures of 'stay With Me / Deckard', the sounds of Ekko & Sidetrack are the hands that will guide you through it, for all of its pleasures and all of its worths.
