ELEMENTS is Tasitas Debut Soul project offering a blend of R & B, soul and jazz three genres woven neatly in an elemental tapestry of sound. Theres something familiar yet refreshingly different in this offering, all of the tracks are soulful and captivating. After listening to it, you couldnt fathom a title better than Elements, as each track serves as an ideal representation of fire, water, earth and air.
Elements opens with the fiery and soulful 'CHANGE MY HEART'. Its reminiscent of the stone cold R & B of the 90s rooted in melodies, tight harmonies, acoustic guitar riffs and powerful vocals. The lyrics are so relatable and Tasitas voice dances around the melody. The harmonies are evocative of SWV and Brownstone. If this song doesnt get you grooving, nothing ever will.
'TOO BAD' is slower and sassier. This track is the water element of the EP. The verses flow gently veering off into a raging waterfall of a chorus. Its effervescent in sound gradually building to a perfect just desserts message to that jilted lover.
Track no. 3, 'GONNA BE MINE' is Mother Earths sultry serenade to Father Time. Its infused with enough jazz to make your body sway. The bass is meaty and the piano riffs are simply hypnotic. Its an earthy, powerful, seductive and captivating song. Tasitas voice caresses the song in a delicate yet intoxicating way. Dont be surprised if this song ends up on a plethora of baby making playlists.
Last on the tracklist is the airy anthem 'CAN YOU HEAR ME' with a spoken word verse its easily one song thats very difficult to forget. It is a light, heady mix of vocal control and powerful harmonies. Its almost contradictory in sound dancing from uplifting, emotional to painful, while being at peace. Ending the EP with this is a clever move. Its very different to the rest of the album and just enough to leave us wanting more.
As for the fifth element of life 'love', there is so much of it laced in every note, melody and lyric. While there may only be four songs you can tell a lot of care went into the production of this EP. Each track is not just a showcase of Tasita's vocal prowess but a distinct love of her craft.
