LHISPR is a brand new musical collaboration between Lilian Hak, Ivo Schmetz and Peter Rutten. It all began with a phone call in 2017. Lilian needed a fresh set of ears to listen to a few of her tracks and phoned Ivo. Their musical paths had crossed about ten year earlier, but they had not been in touch since. Why Lilian decided to phone Ivo specifically still remains a mystery, but one thing lead to another and in Peter's studio at OT301 they connected musically.
All three members of LHISPR have been active in the music industry for a long time. Lilian can draw on an extensive career as a singer and composer. During this time releasing four albums -including international remixes (with among others T. Raumschmiere and Matthew Herbert)- and touring clubs, festivals and theatres with her band. Peter and Ivo are co-owners of Amsterdam record label Basserk Records. In the past they travelled to far-flung corners of the world with their electropunk band 3-1, performing at least 500 times. Peter is also the driving force behind the bands Bronstibock and Van Pi and Ivo is co-owner of design studio 310k and has, for many years, been the music programmer at OT301.
It is this diversity of backgrounds and wealth of experience combined, coupled with a few months studio time, that resulted in a first 2 track EP, bringing to life the many facets of LHISPR for the very first time. In the track 'Deja vu' you can hear how electronic music and Lilian's vocals are combined into an actual song. In 'Hypnotic' the instrumental electronic element highlights the more abstract layer of LHISPR's music. These two different facets are each essential to the identity of LHISPR in which electronic and ambient music, beats, vocals and visual experiment are combined into an eclectic, yet cohesive whole.
