Jon Lee & Simon Houser met upon Simon's arrival in Seattle from NY in 2004. They were introduced by a mutual friend who brought Simon into Jon's record store to do some shopping. It took no time before the two were steadfast friends. Their friendship grew into DJ-ing together at many of the same clubs and parties and, perhaps inevitably, this led to their first studio session together as Lee Houser and the rest is history.
2014 has already seen the release of their first single on Filter Music Records as well as upcoming releases on Canada's Kiko Records, Ecuador's Laifis Happ-y, and this, their debut on FTC Recordings.
The original version of "Tolerate" is a seductively laid back, tech-influenced groove which exudes a hypnotic, slightly spacey feel which, from the first beat to the last, carries you along with the infectious, rolling bassline. This certainly marks a clear sonic signature and one which Lee Houser are set to build on in their future tracks.
FTC label owners Nigel Mihell and Johnny Pinkfinger take things in a slightly different direction with their "Chicago Throwback" mix which extracts the bassline from the Original mix and transplants it into an acid-house monster that should remind us where it all began, some 30 years ago! Retro, yes, but also surprisingly refreshing (or refreshingly surprising!), and certainly one to raise the roof wherever it is played.
All in all, 2014 is shaping up to be quite the year for Lee Houser and they are excited to show the world what they have to offer. If this release is anything to go by, the world won't be disappointed...
