The 8th Release on DBGrooves bursts forth with a fantastic cross genre ep from Black Narcissus that sits on it's own in front of the Zeitgeist. Opening number Fashion For The Weak starts with pounding minimal percussion and deep sub. Electronic pops and clicks provide solid rhythms behind dark ambience and a menacing synth that lead into a mesmerising breakdown. Confusing, hypnotic, metallic and electronic synths build the break to a full on peak of electronic chaos with a nod to the old school. Peak set minimal mayhem!! 2nd track, Kingdom of Cloned Souls is a dubstep/dubtech crossover number. Rumbling bass with an infectious broken 4x4/half-step beat drives forward with a minimal ethic. Atmospherics build eventually to a break that fills to head bursting intensity with metallic whines and drones that lead, crashing, into a beautific second half. An intelligent, progressive, yet accessible epic tune. Down the Stream is all stripped down dark minimal menace filled with strange ambience, thumping kicks, rumbling subs, odd synths, and a massive clunking percussion hook. It all adds up to a dark off-kilter funk machine of a tune. Final piece, Empty promise is another minial dub-tech/dubstep crossover number. Big rolling bass, sharp punchy kicks and claps and syncopated percussion surrounded by atmospherics lead this tune in a sinister direction. The break brings a change of mood. Light and air fill the mix as sweeping pads and reverse cymbal synths bring us back from the darkness and into the pure sunlight. An uplifting, genre bounding deep and sensual end to another amazing EP.
