An iconic artist with a legion of fans and a unique talent for creating timeless and lasting dance music, Dousk has been an ever-present at underground dance's top table for well over a decade. Now, as the Greek legend continues to develop his expanding portfolio, Bumpy Ride opens the gateway to a new vehicle showcasing the Dousk sound.
Since an unforgettable, eponymously-titled debut EP for John Digweed's Bedrock in 2004, Dousk has consistently captured and maintained the attention of the underground dance fraternity. A classically trained musician in piano, orchestration and jazz, as well as the more contemporary spheres of electronic music production and engineering, the Dousk sound has been writ large across the sets and playlists of fans and peers alike as he embraces new technology in his music.
A world-renowned DJ, regular performances in the Athens capital and across his Greek homeland have been supplemented by global appearances across the continents in Kiev, Tel Aviv, New Delhi and Cairo, to name but a few. Furthermore, the monthly "Acrobatics" show on Frisky Radio has provided an additional platform to showcase the Dousk sound.
With several full-length albums within his repertoire, Dousk's music has also found a place on multiple television and radio advertisements, in tandem with appearances on worldwide global hit TV shows including "CSI", Dr Who" and "My Name is Earl". With over 400 production credits to his name, the Dousk sound has been a regular feature on the likes of Klik Records, Tulipa and the Greek owned, Vapour Recordings. Proton Music has also been a welcome addition to the Dousk portfolio with 2013's twin-track "Bisocial" EP, a modern-day classic and a suite of remixes that have further illustrated his talents.
Creating a deep rhythmic pattern with its subterranean kick and layered 808-claps, the third track to feature on Bumpy Ride is the growling bass monster that is "Mamawey". Featuring intermittent vocal cuts that are layered enticingly against the rhythmic backdrop, a rising melodic flow provides a carefully orchestrated platform for a simple melodic motif to leave the listener baying for more as a sumptuous female vocal sample serenades against the growling bass majesty. Building to a dénouement by the mid-point, a glorious drop brings rhythmic components back to the fore in a very special work.
