Sloki is the alias of Cairo-born, London-bred music producer Marwan El-Menawy. Originally a guitarist, he started playing in bands nearly two decades ago, strumming his way from a-ha covers to death metal. After performing with some of Egypt's top underground acts, he picked up solo music production when working at a radio station making jingles on Sony Acid Pro in 2006-a curiosity that turned into a fully-fledged obsession. Sloki has an affinity for combining evolving beats and melodies layered with airy, almost tangible atmospheres. He utilises (and sometimes destroys) field recordings, samples, synths and drum machines to create an uncompromising balance between ambience, power and melody.
